As fans of both greenskin people have been arguing...Is Orcs in Fantasy better than Orks in WH40k? Or is it the other way 'round? I've go into detail and delve into both fluff, miniatures line and history. Anyways, here's the information after comparing both of the best, most fun races in fantasy and 40k. :P
Orcs are better than Orks because :-
- There are more other races/animals fightin' together with the greenskin. Giants, Wolves, Boars, Squigs, Trolls, Wyverns, Snotlings and Spiders. It's cool to see Orcs live and fight with other races/animals in harmony!
- Goblins are more dominant in WFB, as they have more unit type, an elite Night Goblin type, better weapons and classes, Snotlings and a few Goblin HQs. I'd love to use Skarsnik, Lord of the Eight Peaks & Gobbla to eat up some enemy units! Good news for goblin/gretchin fans I suppose, since they are competitive to field some of them and you'll see them more often in WFB rather than in WH40k.
- There are much more miniatures available on the market today for Orcs and Goblins for WFB compared to Orks for WH40k.
- The Orc Warboss
(which is suppose to be the most important unit in both races!) is available on a customizable plastic kit, unlike the Ork Warboss models which are not customizable unless you do some cutting, adding plasticard and greenstuffing. Plus, Warboss on Wyverns
are cooler than Warboss on Bikes, especially Azhag the Slaugtherer...reminds me of Jake Sulley riding Wyverns in Avatar.
- There are more races in WFB for the greenskins to bash (15 main races in WFB compared to 12 main in WH40k). There are stunties (Dwarfs) to fight wif which doesn't exist in WH40k.
Orks are better than Orcs because:-
- One word : DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA! Ok thats seven...
- Looting and kitbashing! There are tons of Ork players out there making their own Flash Gitz, Looted Tanks, Battlewagons, Gunz, etc. Anything can be looted and can be Orkified proppa by the Mekboyz! Plus you can make Orks wear any kind of freeboota clothings like pirates cause in Space anything is possible.
- Orks can use bits and parts from WFB Orcs with some proppa paint and some modification as a Feral/Snake Bite type of Orks, where as Orcs have a little bit difficulty in doing so because of the technological difference.
- Orks are generally bigger in size, in all aspects. The 40k Warboss is bigger than a WFB Warboss even without the Mega-Armor, Nobz are bigger than Black Orcs, and Orks have big vehicles (prolly bigger then many other races in WH40k as well!).
- Red paints in WH40k makes things go fasta, and the goblins in WFB failed to realize it. They should paint their chariots and animals red.
- There are more variety of weapons in the Orks armory. More ways to chop, smash, fry your enemy and MORE DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA
- Battlewagon with Deffrolla. Orcs and Orks both like big things; and they should make a big vehikle in WFB that can roll/smash over puny enemies who dare to mess with the greenskins. The Empire already has their Steam Tank
and I hope in the future that Orcs and Goblins have their own big 'un as well.
- My personal opinion, Orks have more funny and memorable quotes over Orcs. :)
There ya go...a few points I can think of. But in the end who cares? I like to see both landing a choppa on a pesky 'umies head! If only GW make a story about some kind of dimension distortion and pit both Orks and Orcs together...they will rules the whole Warhammer World! WAAAAAGHHHHH!! Whaddaya think?

For those of you who didn't know, Vigil Games (an in-house sub of THQ games) announced the making of Warhammer 40k MMOG (Massive Multiplayer Online Game) on March 2007 and it will be completed around year 2012. Details are still very vague, but so far only a few information about the world settings and gameplay are revealed, and a screenshot of an Orky camp (made from a Fighta Bomma) is shown on the official website. It's highly likely Orks will be a playable race! Waaaaaghh!!! :D
THQ Investors Presentation 2009
Information gathered around the internet:
- The game will be set in the 41st Millenia, after the Horus Heresy and they promised all 'important' races will be represented (ORKS ORKS ORKS ORKS ORKS).
- There will be no non-combat classes in the game. So everybody have to start a fight! Good news for Orks! :)
- Character looks will be highly customizable with objects like weapons, books, scrolls and chains hanging from their armour. So you can see how big your shoota/choppa iz like when you carry 'em! Sounds darn fun and intimidating.
- War and battlefields will be a large part of Warhammer 40,000 Online, players are also able to visit cities (of all scales, types and sizes), exotic alien temples, Chaos shrines, deserted battlefields, mysterious ruins, ancient structures, drifting hulks in space, etc... and that they will be populated with all manners of non-playable characters. I'd very like to bring a bunch of boyz to raid all the above and looking for a good fight!
- Grouping with other players is NOT necessary, though you may need a larger group to fight tougher bosses and PVP. Maybe good for those who like solo.
There will be lots more information revealed later at the E3 2010 expo June 15-17th. Stay tuned and I'll cover all the Orky news that you'll ever need! What are your guesses? I hope they have a Evil Sunz klan...
Found this on Youtube...using WH40k : Dawn of War Ork voices. When I first hear Ork voices, I wish they were in a another dimension messing with other cartoon/movie/video game characters cause their interaction will be simply awesome!
It sure sounds familiar for those of you who play the game, but its nicely done! Check these out :
I like how they make Dopey a Grot...he's so suitable for it! XD
Its great that Games Workshop made both Fantasy Orcs and 40k Orks to be similar in looks. The better
news is that most of the Orc pieces are the same size as their 40k counterpart. Many veteran Ork modellers definitely will have some Fantasy Orc bits incorporated into their 40k Orks (and some vice versa). In this post, I'll go down the some of the potential Orc pieces that can be used in your Ork army.
Warhammer Fantasy Black Orcs
Description from Games Workshop:
Black Orcs are the biggest and strongest of all Orcs, and get their name from their dour, grim demeanour as much as from the colour of their skin, which is extremely dark green or black. They take war much more seriously than other Orcs and have the best equipment. Many of their fearsome weapons are captured in battle, and carried as a mark of their self-evident superiority, while others are paid in tribute by subjugated tribes.
This multi-part plastic boxed set contains 10 Black Orcs, which can be assembled with double handed weapons or choppas and includes options for a Champion, Standard Bearer and Musician.
These guys make good Nobz in 'eavy armor and comes together with big Choppas (double handed weapons). You can make swap it by adding Nob sluggas and Power Klaw bits. There are people around the net who uses it as a 'ard Boyz squad too. They will also look great as a Warbiker Nob by doing some modifications to its legs to fit in a Warbike (or Warboar :P).
Flash gitz maybe possible too by adding in kustom made snazzguns, or getting them from a bits store online. Plus, the Ork Standard looks might awesome too.

Orc and Goblin Cave Squig Herd
Description from Games Workshop :
Squigs are weird beasties - part fungus, part flesh, but mostly teeth and claws. Although they are wild and dangerous creatures, it is possible to herd them towards the enemy by means of pitchforks, firebrands and the beating of loud drums.
Retail Price : USD19.75 / GBP 12.00
You may need these metal blister squids for a few reasons, as Tankbusta Squig variant, Attack Squig for your Warboss, as a Angry Squig model if you successfuly turn a enemy IC using Old Zogworth's power, to accompany your Grotz and Runtherd, or simply stick it to your Ork vehicles for decoration purpose. Orks are a fun race, and squigs just add more flava into it. :D
Orc Warriors Regiment
* Sorry I can't able to find sprues of them around the internet...
Description from Games Workshop :
Even the smallest Orcs pack a great deal of bone, muscle and bloody-mindedness into a body as tall as a man and substantially broader. Orcs are tougher than any normal man, although less nimble, and far less organised, which is why Orc Bosses have to be even more brutal than the Orcs they lead.
This box set contains 19 multi-part plastic Orc Boyz, which can be assembled with spears or choppas and includes options for a Champion, Standard Bearer and Musician.
Retail Price : USD35.00 / GBP18.00
Amazon Price
: USD24.49
These guys look the same as your regular Ork Boyz. You are bound to have extra shoota or slugga arms for you can only make 10 shootas or 10 sluggas from a Ork Boyz set. The different look choppas and heads is also good to add more variety to your Boyz. Plus, 19 Orc Boyz for less than two times of the Ork Boyz box is already a good bargain. With some proppa modifications, you may even convert them to Tankbustas (add rokkits and tankbusta bombs from the Ork Boyz sprue) or Kommandos (by painting camo on them). They fit in any regular boyz' torso and legs so you're free to mix and match to fit them anywhere!
I've also mentioned the new Orc Boarboyz in the previous post, so its a good idea to get these guys too.
If you lost loads of games and feel bad about yourself, don't fret! Everyone was a newbie before. Here are some pointers on how to improve your game, which can be on Warhammer 40k, WH Fantasy or any other similar Tabletop War game.
My advice is that there are a few things you need to remember as an Ork (or 40k) player in general :
- Know the Rule : Read the rulebook thoroughly, know the rules of running, consolidation, leadership checks, pinning, etc. If you're new and can't remember everything, you can jot down notes, print out the WH40k resources I posted on the Waaagh Resources and Tactica section, or put bookmarks on your 5th ed rulebook/codex to save time. Time is important ya know! :P
- Know the Objective : Sometimes you don't need to kill everything to win. Know what it is needed to win the game such as, capturing objectives, scoring points, etc. Killing everything may sound fun, but it isn't fun to know that you lose if you kill more stuff than your opponent did and still lose the game.
- Know your Units : Know what you are fielding (duh) and get the most of the wargears you equip them with. Access their strength and weaknesses. There is no such thing as a "god" unit that beats everything to a pulp. Every unit, whether it is solo, big or small has a counter/weakness in it. Orks maybe good melee fighters, but there are bigger, more expensive units that will best Orks in hand to hand (mostly SM and Chaos SM). We live by numbers, and a nob with a Power Klaw and dats a fact! Waaaaggghhh!
- Know your Enemy Units : Either read about them before facing them, or ask the player if you're not sure...especially psychic powers cause they may swing into the favour of your enemy. e.g : Space Wolf Rune Priest's Jaws of the World Wolf, etc. It doesn't matter whether its his strongest unit or weakest unit, to know more is to get a better idea of what you're facing. Hatch a plan and do something first about the bigger threat to your current army and leave the ones with lesser threat later . It's also a bonus if you know the synergy of your opponent's squad and how he plays them (different people play play the exact same squad differently): aggresive, passive, offensive, defensive, etc. You'll find it easier and get a confident boost if you know what your enemy units are capable of and what they suck at.
- Know the Map : You need to discuss and decide with your opponent about the various terrains and covers before playing, e.g which terrain gives +4, which cover does not, etc. Deploy in the right cover spot according to your enemies deployment. It is always a tactical advantage to deploy last. A bad deployment may cause you lose the game. You need to know how much can the terrain block line of sight, and how many boyz can get that cover save.
- Know your Plan B : Yes, your opponent may have lady luck on his/her side and get lucky potshots killing off your tough and important units in turn 1 or 2. You may roll loads of 1 and get pissed off. Make at least 3/4 of your army capable of doing some damage on its own as a plan B. If all else fails, try to put up a fight before you go down!
- Know your Inches : You don't need to get the exact measurement, but just a rough idea will do. Movement inches, weapon inches, and 6" of running into assault. It is VERY important to know the latter as most Orks will need to assault into battle. Newbies may miscalculated the 6" and get denied the Assault on that turn and get shot to bits the next turn. Remember to run and not shoot if the opponent is just barely 6" away, as he may remove that unit as a casualty to deny you the assault. Roughly knowing your weapons range is also good so you don't screw up by unable to shoot and exposing your unit out in the open or its side/rear armor.
Here you go...7 K's to get the best of your Ork Waaagh. There maybe more, but this is all I can think of for now. Till next time! :)
Another gem in the-waagh.com forums, this time by the man Kr00zA :
This chart shows the comparison of all the gargants available in the ork fluff, including ships, planes, tanks, gargants and etc. Kr00zA did add in a FW Warhound Titan as well for comparison purposes. Nice chart if you want to make your own Stompa or Ork Vehikle! :)
I've stumbled across some proppa Orky glyphs in the-waagh forums, and I guess its good to know your Ork language! Here's it :
Quoted from Gaf-Naz from the original source :
I've used the glyphs from "Waaargh the Orks", "Freebooterz", 1994's "Codex Orks" and the current Codex.
Where different books have given different translations I've included them all.
If anyone knows of any other glyphs then please let me know and I'll add them.
Hope you all find this helpful when decking-out your vehicles with glyphs to insult your skumgrods.

Gaf-Naz took the glyphs from official GW books so it's kinda safe to say it's official :p. You can also download the Ork Glyphs TrueType Font here to use it in your PC (credit to abstractfonts.com and Dragon's Den Typefoundry).
Preview of the Ork glyph fonts :
To add this font to your pc, download the .ttf file posted above and save it. Then go to your control panel -> Fonts menu. You can then Copy and paste (or drag and drop) your downloaded .ttf file into the Fonts Menu and you're set.
Dang, I kinda missed the Ork Stompa in the previous post :P!
Forgeworld is really encouraging us to invest more time with Armageddon and the Imperial Armour books by coming out with lots of huge models...
Here's the third Stompa on the market today :
From the Forgeworld website :
The Complete Ork Stompa contains the Head, Klaw and Lifta-Droppa arms, Belly gun and a plastic Stompa kit. Model designed by Stuart Williamson.
Not much details, but this one does have the belly gun which the other Forgeworld Stompa and the GW's one doesn't have. But its basically the same one as the previous one Forgeworld one, they just add the belly gun and £30 to the price. The price is at £155.00 (~USD224.30) which is enough to kill your wallet :P. Compared with the Forgeworld Stompa without Belly Gun : £125.00(~USD180.90) and the Games Workshop Stompa : £60.00(~USD86.90) (much cheaper if you get it from Amazon
or other online store), is this worth it? It's up to you to judge though.
Of course Forgeworld do sell parts of the Stompas on their website too in case you need just certain parts of it :
- Belly Gun - £36.00 (~USD52.10)
- Head - £32.00 (~USD46.30)
- Klaw Arm - £32.00 (~USD46.30)
- Lifter Dropper Arm - £32.00 (~USD46.30)
Just for comparison, I'll include pictures of both the other Forgeworld Stompa and GW's Stompa :
Forgeworld Stompa w/o Belly Gun
Games Workshop Stompa
I'll admit that the Forgeworld one does looks more imitidating and angrier than the GW one. Of course, some of us is just gonna save up the cash and scratchbuild their Stompas with plasticards, an old bucket or anything that you can grab your hands of...afterall, it's an Ork nature.
It's cool see more variety of stompas around the table in Armageddon games...Waaaaaggghhh!!!
